The Johannesweg Trail in the Mühlviertel

Where every breath is pure relaxation.
Here you’ll find peace and contentment!

In the Mühlviertel, rolling hills and unspoiled nature blend harmoniously, making a hike along the Johannesweg an unforgettable experience.

Tradition meets modernity, and every moment tells a new story. In the rolling hills of the Mühlviertel, you’ll experience not only special moments but a symphony for the senses.

Feel the warmth of the people who call this place home, and immerse yourself in aworld full of possibilities for body and soul.

Taking time for oneself, unwinding and finding peace, and discovering one’s inner balance. Especially in a time marked by uncertainty, when many are searching for answers, it is important for us as human beings to find reflection in nature and to know who we truly are.

What began as an idea by Linz-based dermatologist Dr. Johannes Neuhofer has developed into a popular pilgrimage route in recent years. For more than a decade, the Johannesweg has attracted people seeking a new perspective on life.

The spiritual hiking trail in Upper Austria stretches 84 km through the refreshing rolling hills of the Mühlviertel. Twelve stations invite you to linger and offer inspiration or wisdom. Along the circular trail, you’ll find places of power, imposing stone monuments, numerous vantage points, and five summit crosses with magnificent panoramic views. Explore the region in all its facets and hike in harmony with nature on a three-, four-, or five-day tour. The starting point is the town of Pierbach. You can also begin your hike in any town along the loop trail. Here you’ll find all parking options along the Johannesweg.

Dr. Johannes Neuhofer, founder of the Johannesweg

My inner spark to support people in their healing journey grew into a blazing fire. This led to the development of the 12 Life Wisdom Principles, which serve as the foundation of the Johannesweg.

For easier navigation, you can order the Johannesweg hiking map or purchase it at a participating establishment along the trail. The Johannesweg app is the perfect companion for your hike on the Johannesweg. You can collect stamps on the Johannesweg using the stamp passport or digitally via the app (stamp stations for the passport are located at restaurants; those for the app are directly at the Johannesweg stations). We are constantly developing the Johannesweg to open up new possibilities.
Dogs are great companions and are very welcome on the Johannesweg! Dog-friendly Johannesweg accommodations.

YOUR personal feedback is very important to us! Tell us about your experiences on the Johannesweg or write an inspiring blog post for others.
